Minnesota Fall Wedding
This Minnesota Fall Wedding started with the ceremony at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and ended with the reception at the 40 Club in Aitkin, MN. I love traveling for weddings especially when it’s to somewhere that I’ve never been before. This particular wedding was an extra bonus since I grew up with the bride, Alex, and we are family friends.
The couple got ready at a Lutheran church in Crosby where Joe, the groom, grew up. It was a beautiful church but it did present a set of challenges with the bride getting ready in the nursery and the groom getting ready in a Sunday school classroom. The rooms were small so the first lens I grabbed had to be my wide angle 16-35mm lens. Luckily there was a fireside room next door to the nursery, which had a beautiful stain glass window in the door. I also used this to hang the dress since there weren’t options to hang it in a window or lay it on a bed. Always look over your surroundings thoroughly before deciding where to take pictures.
We did the first look right in the back of the church which was my only option for shade, which was ideal since it was really hot out… hot couple too. Hee hee.
We then took the wedding party to the nearby state park where we took some group shots. I like to check with brides on there comfort level with getting the bottom of their dress dirty. Since there is so much red in the dirt in that area, Alex decided to stay on sidewalks so she could keep her dress looking nice for the ceremony. We just planned around that before heading back to the church.
I used flash for everyone walking down the aisle and as soon as the ceremony started I just used natural light. I didn’t want the flash to be distracting. I shot wide open with low shutter speeds and really bumped up my ISO to bring more light in the image.
The wedding party took a party bus for a quick stop at a bar before heading to their reception at the 40 club.
The wedding party helped decorate the banquet hall the night before and it looked stunning.
Dancing followed with a football garter toss.
It was a magical evening with family and friends and you could truly feel the love shared among everyone attending. Congratulations Alex and Joe!
